Yeah, I'm gonna say no.

I've mentioned many times that I watch HGTV a lot. And I mean A LOT. There has been a terrible trend in the last year or so to put chandeliers everywhere. Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen sinks. But what bothers me the most is when they take a ceiling fan out of a bedroom and replace it with a chandelier. I am VERY hot natured and I live in a VERY hot climate. If a designer came into my house and replaced the ceiling fan in my bedroom with a chandelier, I would slap them silly and hold a sharp pointy object to them until they put the fan back. And then I'd make them hang the chandelier in my garage. Because that would be cool.

What can I say??! You have a way of making me laugh out loud! Yes, I agree. Replacing a perfectly decent ceiling fan with some fancy light is, well, stupid!!

After you mentioned the HGTV I managed to find it on my TV. One of the first shows I saw showed a person using this HUGE knife to cut vegetables, onions, etc.

I went to my little knife holder and, sure enough, there was a knife just like it! I had never used it. SO I pulled it out and tried cutting carrots and things with it, just like I saw on TV. It worked so easy! All this time I had this great knife and never knew how to use it!

So, thanks for the tip and, more than that, thanks for making me laugh this morning!!

I can just imagine some poor guy being threatened with a sharp pointy object (!) until he puts that ceiling fan back up!!

Take care...

Ohhhh HGTV, my poison of choice when I petsit at the neighbours and visit my friend in Montreal... I LOVE that channel! And did you know that Colin and Justin are in Toronto for A YEAR! Yes! a year! lol they drive me nuts and their choices are sometimes debatable but man, it's good TV!

Now if it was THAT chandelier, I'd probably slap them silly as well. If it was another kind, I may consider it lol

Before things like HGTV showed up, I thought designers were there to help you achieve your vision for your home. I no longer harbor such illusions.

I didn't realize that Chandeliers have become so popular....! I wonder when that happened and why??
I can understand having a chandelier in one room maybe....But to replace a ceiking fan with a chandelier??? Hello!
I don't get that, at all.

I'd like to see you on an episode of HGTV slapping around one of the designers at knifepoint. I'd have to agree w/ you. What's wrong w/ ceiling fans anyway? We have four in our house and use every one of them, especially when it gets into the high 90s. Chandeliers are fine in a dining area; that's about the only place I'd want one.

Russell,
~~Are you sure that wasn't the Food Network? I've learned a lot from that channel also. I'm glad I gave you a chuckle.

Sylvie,
~~"Divine Design" is a Canadian show and it's one of the best. Except Candice uses too many mirrors or "meers" as she calls them. Also I think she started the whole chandelier thing.

Ticknart,
~~No kidding. How many times has the homeowner said something like, "I hate brown." Then as soon as they leave the designer says, "Helen says she doesn't like brown, but we're going to paint the walls this shade of brown and Helen will love it."

Naomi,
~~You obviously don't watch HGTV. They put them over garden tubs, in bedrooms, over kitchen islands, over kitchen sinks, over the bathroom sink, patios. They put them pretty much everywhere except in the chidrens' rooms.

Scarlet,
~~Celing fans serve a purpose. I have no idea why they are suddenly considered aesthetically unacceptable. So what? I want to be cooler. And I imagine they are just as important in Florida as in Texas.

You and Wendy and HGTV. Tsk.

Ian,
~~You can laugh if you want to, but I have learned a lot from watching that channel.

I'm an HGTV junkie. I love anything to do with home decorating, and I know all the designers. Well, I don't know them, but I watch all their shows.

I have never been overly fond of chandeliers, however. If I move into a home that has one, the first thing I do is take it down. For some reason, they're always in really, really bad taste.

Josie,
~~Not to mention spider collectors.

Yes, you're right. It was the food channel! Now I will have to see if I have HGTV.... Keep in mind I am a person who went from not being able to boil water to a person who, well, okay, I'm not that much different but at least I try....!!

I started making stuff in a slow cooker but it was too fast for me...!!

LOL! "I started making stuff in a slow cooker but it was too fast for me...!!"

Uh, okay... *chuckle*

Russell,
~~Keep watching the food channel and you will learn how to cook everything.
Fast and slow.

Chandeliers, ugh just spider web traps. I always thought that they were a tad pretentious... let's face I sure don't live in a mansion and putting in a chandelier would be like pasting a Rolls Royce flying lady (the hood ornament) on a Lada. Looks tacky!

Well, I'm on the lookout to replace my dining room chandelier - it's just SO 80's!!! lol HGTV is always on here - I watch it ALL. Candice is one of my favourite designers and I WISH WISH WISH she could come and do something with my place. I have a ceiling fan in my family room so that in the summer if it gets too hot upstairs, I can sleep under it on the sofabed. They DO have a place! Do you watch that show from Britain "Location Location Location" or their other one "Relocation Relocation Relocation"? I love Kirstie and Phil - they make quite a team. I enjoy it because my dream is to live in the English countryside and it helps me keep up with the prices over there. Way higher than here! Oh don't get me going on HGTV - gotta run and see what's on now! lol

Oh yeah! I wish Colin and Justin would come to Vancouver! I'd sign up in a minute!

Bid Brother,
~~I have no earthly idea what a Lada is but I get your gist. Yeah they put chandeliers in two bedroom ranch houses. I just don't get it.

Leslie,
~~I've never seen those British shows. I do love the shows about house hunting though. It's so fun to tour houses all over. The weirdest to me were the apartments in Poland. I had never seen anything like that.

Candice is located in Toronto and is very good. My neighbours have met Colin and Justin who are in Toronto for about a year to do a series on redecoration. They met him at a fundraiser ball a few weeks ago. They said the two are ever so nice and, wait... it gets better, they will invite them to dinner at their place and woohooo I will be invited!

Geewits, a Lada is a Russian made car that is so badly built that if you leave too long in the driveway, it'll fall into a pile of rust and oil stains.

A chandelier in a garage would indeed be cool. And i'm with you. Enough with chandeliers already!

JAZZ! You found an internet cafe! Hey, I miss you already!
