My Unforgettable Dad

I guess since the year turned, I've been thinking a lot about my Dad. This October will be the 10th anniversay of his death. In some ways that seems crazy. How can TEN years have gone by? I'm sure I'll be writing about him a lot this year, but for now I'll just leave you with our song:

That is one of the great recording ideas to ever be executed....BEAUTIFUL! One forgets how truly good this is till you hear it, once again...!
Nat "King" Cole was a unique talent in every way and his dear daughter certainly is incredibky Talented, too!
Lovely, Geewits.....!

One of my most favorite (is that redundant? oh well...) songs. I love hearing that arrangement.

I remember Nat King Cole fairly well, though he died when I was still pretty young. I am happy you have such good memories of your father. That is more than any riches can buy!

I was reading your St. Patrick's Day post (I have not been around a computer a lot these past few days...) and see you are a Duke fan. I THINK that the school my daughter attends, Drake University in Des Moines, is in the SAME regional as Duke!!

It looks like before Drake could play Duke (and I love Coach K and the Duke team!!) they would have to beat UCLA - and that is not likely!

Okay. Take care and if the Drake Bulldogs can't do it, I will be pulling for those Duke Blue Devils! (Question: Is any team the, uh, Red Devils??!)

What a lovely way to remember someone.

Naomi,
~~Everything about the song is perfect. Nat was from my Dad's time and Natalie from mine. I remember seeing her on Johnny Carson and she said she drank gin and orange juice so I had to try it. I still order those occasionally and it makes me think of her.

Jazz,
~~Oops your secret sweetness is showing!

Russell,
~~If Drake can make it past Connecticutt, maybe they CAN beat UCLA. I haven't filled out my brackets yet, but that would make for a good upset and give me lots of points! 5 seeds have beat 1 seeds before. I need to study everything first, but I just hope Duke can make it that far!

Tai,
~~Except for many years the song made me burst into tears. Now it makes me smile.

My dad has been dead these many years, he died young of the big C, and I still remember him with a smile. It is often the little things that remind me of him and I cherish those moments. As long as he lives on in our hearts he is never truly gone. The values he gave us and we passed on to our kids means that a bit of him will be forever with us.

Aw, Geewits, that's beautiful. What a nice tribute to your Dad. I remember reading your post about him last year, and you posted a painting that someone had done of him. It was great.

That's kind of nice, your song is a father and daughter singing together.

Big Brother,
~~You and I are on the same page about this. These are the things I always tell people.

Josie,
~~That song was just meant to be our song.
