Oscar* Fun

I just watched a cute show on VH1 called "VH1's 20 Greatest Oscar Moments." I'll admit it: I'm an awards show junkie. I spent two days curled up in a fetal position when I realized there would be no "Golden Globes." Fortunately I had the "Screen Actors Guild Awards" and the "Grammys" to pull me out of my funk. And now the word on the street (and by street, I mean the internet) says The Oscars* are a go now that the writers' strike is over. The show must will go on, thank goodness. (And that horrid writers strike being over means I can also get my "Saturday Night Live" fix -YAY.) I can't wait to watch the Oscars* and I hope we have some new great moments this year. And although I'm not gay, I would have loved to be Adrian Brody that night.

*Dear Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Scientists people, please accept my apology for not being computer savvy enough to know how to do the little circled "c" copyright thingy. And welcome back.

The great thing about The Writer's strike is that The Writer's proved that solidarty will win the day. This was a very very important make or break strike. Management would have loved to take away the Hard Earned Gains from three years ago---(They actually had that on he table...) So, though it made watching tv a bit difficult, we should all support what the writer's held out for and got!
Next comes The Actors negotiations...I hope Mamagement will NOT want to go through the same torture and will at least compromnise to some degree....
Anyway....I'm happy it is over and that the Oscars will be on in all it's glory!
Did you see the NAACP IMAGE AWARDS last night? It was quite wonderful!

I am so not an award show person. Sometimes I think I'm the only one in the universe.

Me, too.

~~I meant to record that and then forgot. I was watching "Survivor" and "Lost."

~~It wold be fodder for you to rail against!

Ticknart,
~~You're just trying to impress Jazz!

I never miss the Oscars. My goodness! Phinnaeus and I even have bets on best picture, best actor and best actress.

How could anyone not watch the Oscars?

Do you remember when someone streaked the Oscars when David Niven was onstage, and he said something about the fellow's "shortcomings"? Where else but at the Oscars would you see that?

HD,
~~That was a great Oscar moment! I think it was rated #3 on the show. I would have placed it #2 instead of that silly Marlon Brando thing.

Josie,
~~I believe that one was rated 6 or 7. It would be rated #1 for best ad lib on a live show! If you are betting, I hope your money is on "No Country for Old Men," and Daniel Day-Lewis. Best Actress is up for grabs, but those two are pretty much a sure thing.

You misunderstood, I also have loved to be Adrien Brody that Oscar night.

I like the Oscars. It's a TV show about movies. How could I not?

Geewits, best actress should be the French actress who played Edith Piaf in "La Vie En Rose". Omigosh! She was amazing. You should rent it.

I think best actress will go to Julie Christie, though, for "Away From Her". She was amazing too. That was a Canadian movie, by the way.

Ticknart,
~~That makes sense. I think everyone wanted to be Adrian Brody that night!

Josie,
~~This one is too tough for me. My personal favorites as people are Laura Linney and Cate Blanchett. I think I'll be happy with any of them winning. I don't watch movies in foreign languages because I am more of a movie listener than a movie watcher and I like the subtle nuances of words and would miss all of that in a foreign film.

To answer your question about 'my loves'....And will I write about them....Probably Not! I have written a little bit about one or two "loved ones", here and there, but I am not comfortable writing about people who are still alive and who's privacy I don't feel I have the right to invade, you know? They are very private people and so am I...So, like I said....probably not. (lol)

I still don't watch SNL.

P.S. There was a writer's strike?

Though I do love the shows on TV, I very seldom watch the awards. I guess I will have to rely on you to tell me all about them! ;-) Take care!

J,
~~You live in California and you haven't noticed how crowded the Starbuckses have been for the last 3 months?

Dave,
~~Awards shows are great! They only play once, unlike a TV show or movie, so if you miss something, you've missed it. (Although you will see clips of really BIG things for the rest of your life.)

I love those shows, too. It's like my Superbowl. :)

The acceptance speeches always make me want to cry for some reason (the heartfelt ones where they thank their dead parents and all that). Very touching.

PS - Thanks for the link for the "Marley & Me" casting call. I've never read the book, but the dog on the cover reminds me of my Brady.

Scarlet,
~~Me too! About the speeches I mean. I think it means we're very empathic.

I'm an Oscar afficionado, too, and already have my dinner menu planned along with the later in the evening popcorn snack planned. Don't anyone phone me that night! lol
