The Trip Ahead

I've often mentioned that My Sweetie sometimes brings home little prizes from work. He gets all sorts of random things. Last week he brought home this little blank-paged book:
As soon as I saw it I said, "That's great! I'll take it on my trip!" I won't have access to a computer for a week on the road trip I am taking with my daughter in August, so I thought it would be perfect for keeping notes on what I do each day. Then I thought that on the back page I would make a list of goofy things to talk about when we get bored. So far I've come up with this:
That first one took my second husband and myself all the way to St. Louis from Fort Worth. Which was 10 1/2 hours of drive time. You'd be surprised by how many old expressions like "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink" and "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it" there are. Well I can tell you that there are 10 1/2 hours of them. And maybe we even missed a few. But anyway, I was hoping some of you might have some suggestions of things to add to the list. And I don't mean any of the regular stuff involving billboards or license plates or cows or the alphabet game which we played ad infinitum all those years of picking up my daughter from her dad's house. What I'm looking for are odd or goofy topics that will require some time and thought. And hopefully a few laughs.
~
By the way, on the dog thing, I think I'd be a yorkshire terrier because they are highly excitable and quite yappy. Oddly, I do not like yorkshire terriers. But that sort of makes sense since they always say that no one would like to hang out with themself. And if I had to be a yorkshire terrier, I would certainly hope that my owner would tie my hair back because I absolutely detest having hair in my face.

Are you a lefty? I ask because I see the notebook has the 'binding' on the right and that's how I use notebooks... being lefty means adapting to the right-handed world ... I love this notebook list/memory holder ... I did this with a FiloFax keeping all the day's receipts and sketches of things I saw .. its a great way to save all your memories ...

I got nuttin' for you subject wise, and somehow I don't see you as a yorkie at all. Dunno what, but not a yorkie.

I don't seem to know much of anything today.

Oh, I could've guessed you wouldn't like the hair in your eyes. ;)

How about using songs to tell a story? For instance, since I like the Rolling Stones, so I'd start it with something like..."Look at that guy...you think he wants to START ME UP or is he WAITING ON A FRIEND? I like his hair, but instead of BROWN SUGAR maybe he should PAINT IT BLACK."

You get the idea. A little nutty, but fun!

That is one very cute Dog...!

Hmmmm. I need to give this some thought....
A game we used to play in the car when we were kids was something like this: You see someone on the street and you make up a sentence that is what they are thinking about in that very moment....OR, making up a WHOLE story about that person....

How about: If they were making a movie of YOUR life, who would your dream cast be to be to play ALL the people in your, including you!

You sound like you'd be fun on a long road trip. I don't remember paying any games in the car, except for the license plates and cows. Hmmm, I have 2 road trips coming up - how to entertain myself whent he radio fades out...

Oh! Oh! Play "Point: Counterpoint"! Pick some really stupid topic and have a debate. One of you has to speak for and one against. (Some stupid topic options might be: Who's going to win the dead celebrity slap fight between Michael Jackson and Elvis? Is it better to be blind or deaf?)

Or you could play "Plot the Perfect Murder" One of you comes up with a possible perfect murder and the other pokes holes in the plan until you actually come up with one.

Daryl,
~~I'm right-handed. I had the idea to jot this stuff on the back page, so that's where it ended up. I pretty much hold my pen straight up, so I didn't even notice the binder rings.

Jazz,
~~You have been awful quiet lately.

Scarlet,
~~Maybe for you - but you haven't heard us sing. Ouch.

Naomi,
~~We won't be seeing many people along Interstate 40 except the people in other cars, so we could make up their trip stories. I really love the movie idea and had a hard time not mentioning it to her at lunch today. I've cast Mom and StepDad, but Dad will require a lot of thought since John Huston is no longer with us.

Violetsky,
~~You can always do the alphabet game. Pick any subject like food, celebrities, locations and pick names for each letter alphabetically starting with A.

Xup,
~~I LOVE point:counterpoint and she'd be perfect for that. As for the perfect murder, I already told her how to do that a few years ago when we were having lunch. She couldn't find fault with it.

My ex and I used to play six degrees of separation on road trips. That had nothing to do with the demise of the marriage.

About the Yorkie: Awwwwwwwwwwwww.

That yorkie is too cute! You certainly fit on the cuteness scale with the Yorkie.

I think I'd want to be a wolf. I like to howl at the moon!

Can't think of any games that you haven't mentioned, but if I come up with any, I'll get back to you. Although I would think you and your daughter should bring some good music and have a couple of fun sing alongs. You could probably harmonize well. Not sure why I think that, but I just do. :)

Ian,
~~I play a solitaire version of that using IMDB. I pick two actors, start on one of their pages and see how quickly I can get to the other by clicking on movies and actors.

Carole,
~~Oh there will be plenty of music but she's got those bass speakers and that will get on my nerves at some point. I'm also going to take comedy CD's. And I think I'm going to get the book on tape of "The Hobbit."
