Let the Games Begin

BEIJING - AUGUST 11: (L-R) Cullen Jones, Jason Lezak, Michael Phelps, Garrett Weber-Gale of the United States pose with the gold medal during the medal ceremony for the Men's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay held at the National Aquatics Center on Day 3 of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on August 11, 2008 in Beijing, China. I probably will not have much to say in the next two weeks because I will be glued to the TV watching the Olympics. It was a family tradition when I was a kid and fortunately I married a man that loves the games like I do. He is even taking three days off this week just to be able to see MORE Olympics! Woot woot! And for all of my Canadian friends, I have been pulling for some of your athletes this weekend. The Olympics is all about sportsmanship over nationality and we have found ourselves rooting for various underdogs over our own athletes. I have really enjoyed this weekend and can't wait to enjoy the rest. If you have never been a fan, please check it out. It's really wonderful.

Blogger is screwing with my Comment!!! UGH!

I just said that I haven't seen a lot of the Olymoics yet but hope to see more as it goes along.
And....That I don't like the way NBC is Broadcasting them...too many interuptions; too much jumping around; and mostly in Prime Time?? Weird.

I watched the beautiful Opening Ceremonies and some of the gymnastics, and I hope to see more in the next couple of weeks. This is a tradition in my family as well and I want the kids to be a part of it. We root for the underdogs, too...sometimes. :)

What are your favorite events to watch, Geewits? And why?

Naomi,
~~I felt gypped yesterday after watching the men's USA/China water polo match. It was an obvious win (8-4) so NBC cut away with 27 seconds left. I didn't get to share in the win with our team. Also when they cut to commercial during volleyball, the play continues so you miss a lot of the action. Also they spend a lot of time discussing the politics of everything and we find that annoying. But I LOVE the games!

Scarlet,
~~In this day and age, it IS one thing you can count on to be fun safe family viewing.

Jazz,
~~But there are so many other athletes to ogle as well!

Ticknart,
~~I love it all. There is nothing I won't watch. We even watch badminton and ping-pong. If I HAD to pick favorites, I'd still have to list many. I love all the track and field, swimming, diving, gymnastics. I love the long distance running because of the stories behind the athletes and I suffer along with them to the end. I also love the short running because of the sheer power. The hurdles are just beautiful to watch. See, I could go on and on. I just love everything about the Olympics!

You are probably the best sort of person to watch the Olympics with. I get a sense of your excitement just reading you responses.

Ticknart,
~~Thanks! I run up to the TV at the end of matches screaming and yelling like I'm at the horse races and even have a little American flag that I wave. I sort of feel like I'm there!

I'm not a fan of the Olympic games, I didn't watch the opening ceremonies either. I heard it was quite something. Every time Canada hopes it will win something but we don't do too well...

Do they have jogging in the olympics? I may watch it then lol Otherwise, the only thing I'll be watching is Coronation Street on CBC website. Damn them, they removed it from prime time! hahaha

Urban,
~~They have tons of running events and even have something called
"fast walking." I'd think you'd like the marathons.

I'm a big fan of men's gymnastics of all things. My high-school boyfriend was a gymnast and I spent many sweaty, smelly hours in the gym watching him practice and going to his competitions. I guess it's because I know what I'm looking for and have a bit of expertise. See you when it's all over!!

I am absolutely not an Olympics buff, but since you are, have fun.

We love the Olympics and are watching too! Although in truth, I prefer the winter games to the summer, but both are lots of fun!!

Xup,
~~That must be fun to know exactly what to look for. Mostly we have to rely on the commentary.

Ian,
~~How odd. Judging by your posts I would think you would love watching the women's beach volleyball.

Carole,
~~I love them equally. It was great to see you today. We were so wrapped up in the games we forgot to sample your great Italian ice. We are goofy!
