Eternal Funtimes of the Spotted Mind

Lo sent me a text today asking where I was. As I started to text back an answer, I got all creative and typed:
gross restore
~
I thought it was hilarious because I hate being at the grocery store, so the word gross made sense. And the word store also can mean "things stocked." And to restore is close to restock and it made perfect sense to me and I just really thought it was the funniest thing in the whole solar system. I was walking around the grocery store having a fine laugh with myself when she texted back:
Are you in Durham? That one's really gross. What you looking for?
~
I didn't understand that at all. Later I found out that she didn't get the joke. My wonderful wizard of joke. She understood "restore" to mean a store that sells used house things like sinks and toilets and windows and whatnot and apparently there is a gross one in Durham. Who knew?
~
Speaking of goofy words and phrases, I heard the 1961 Regents' song "Barbara Ann" the other day and had a good laugh at myself. I was remembering that when I was young I thought the song was "Bob A Rent." And that's the way I sang it.
Bob bob bob, bob bob a rent. Don't even ask me why I thought that made sense. I never was much of a lyrics person.

Well, I didn't get it either but I have some dyslexia when it comes to the written word---I took it literally and thought...What Is That? LOL!

Your story about Barbara Ann reminds me of a line from "The Way We Were' For years I thought the line was....Memories, "like" the corner of my mind....No, it didn't make sense really, but that is what I thought the word was, till I heard some one sing it "LIVE, IN PERSON" and their diction was so good I finally heard "LIGHT" the corners of my mind....HA!

What I heard growing up, and still tend to sing is "Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob Bob he ran." Made the song really confusing

Naomi,
~~How weird. I used to do that too. As a matter of fact I was just singing that the other day in the shower and corrected myself and said "LIGHT" really loud.

Tick,
~~Well everyone had heard of Bob the Runner, right?

I only know the Beach Boys version, but I remember wondering how they got Barbara Ann out of those unintelligble lyrics.

and I am with Lo on that text - that is exactly what I would have thought.

AND where did my comment disappear to on your last post??? my computer keeps freezing and losing stuff. How long will you be in NYC? I may be there on the 17th to 19th

When I was teaching HS I had a student named Bob Durrant. Bob was chronically late to class, and would try to slither in to his desk undetected. One day the rest of the class got together and as he entered sang out in fine voice: 'Ba-ba-ba-ba-Bob Durrant!' He was a bit mortified.

V,
~~Well heck! I get to NYC on the 19th. That's a shame. I would have loved to have met you there. What part of NY will you be visiting?

Ian,
~~That's hilarious. I wonder if people have done that all his life?

I'm a huge fan of lyrics misheard...and of your funny little joke!

Hey, you asked about a five-hour bus ride; gotta tell you it's hecka lot easier than the overnight 10 hour bus ride we did in October to Istanbul. No matter the bus ride or its length, yup, they do stop every couple of hours for pee breaks; some of the better buses have wireless, but I've only scored that once so far. They have stewards on board who bring around tea and coffee and little snack cakes. For us, with the kids, we have stacks of books, DS gaming systems, sometimes schoolwork. There's always people watching, too!

I'm glad I wasnt the only one who thought REstore! The one in Winston Salem is great but the one in Durham has gross stuff no one would want. I knew!

Jocelyn,
~~I would imagine that you could make it work. I just don't think I'd be at my finest.

Lo,
