Fair Day!

One Of the old buildings had "Fortune" and "Adventure" carved on either side of the stairs and it seemed like a perfect place for a photo.

Yes, that sign does say "Chicken Fried Bacon" and it was the only food place that I ever saw with a line. No, I did not try it.

I took this one just as we got off the Skyway. I really love the Skyway.

That's me hanging on for dear life on a crazy ride.

This was a really cute quilt in the craft building. I love that puppy!

This was just one of many turtles in the little lake. I fed him some of
my sesame sticks.

This was a shadow on the ground. I just thought it looked cool.
~
It was a great day for the fair. The weather wasn't too hot and there were no crowds until about 6:00. We got there at 2:00. I heard a lot of my favorite songs including one being butchered at a Rock Band stage (a karaoke type video game). I didn't think anyone could sing worse than me. I was wrong. I had a delicious and messy philly cheesesteak type sandwich and some tamale balls. I won a little purple Snoopy throwing darts and some carnival guy gave me some silk roses for no reason at all. It was fun and I will do it all over again next year. Yay to the Texas State Fair!

Well, aren't you just cuter than cherry pie? I love that first picture of you. You look about 5 -- no wonder your hubby wants you to walk around in pig tails. But - chicken fried bacon? Is that chicken or bacon? Do you get it on a bun or what? I really want to know so I can impress my friends with a new food group

Turtles? In the lake? As in wild turtles?

Color me green.

The only way I'd be more jealous is if you told me there were fireflies, too.

Your photos are fantastic! I love the shadow one...and your new profile pic is so you. :)

You make me want to ride crazy rides at the fair again! That's a great photo of you all caught up in the action.

I wonder what tamale balls taste like. They sound delicious...if they're anything like regular tamales.

Urban,
~~There was another quilt with lighthouses on it that was lovely. The quilts I always like the best never win first place for some reason. It's supposed to be 88° on Saturday. That's ridiculous.

Xup,
~~The chicken fried bacon was just one of the latest entries of weird fried foods. It's a fair tradition. The food site explaining all the weird fried foods is here:
http://www.bigtex.com/foodlocator/

The write up for the CFB is:
Chicken Fried Bacon – Thick and peppery Farm Pac® bacon is seasoned, double-dipped in a special batter and breading and deep-fried. Served with a creamy side of ranch or honey mustard sauce. Served at N30 located on Nimitz at MLK. Winner of Best Taste in the Big Tex Choice Awards competition.

Chicken fried is a Texas expression for battered and fried as in "chicken fried steak."

That's so funny that you said I looked 5. My best friend (she's 32) starts a new job next week at a small place and she expressed concern that she wouldn't have a lot in common with her co-workers because they are older. I said, "I'm older and we talk about everything." and she said, "Yeah, but you're like 12."

Ticknart,
~~That little lake has so many turtles they should name it "Turtle Lake." As for fireflies, I doubt it - I don't think there is enough foliage for them.

Scarlet,
~~The tamale balls were better than I expected. They looked like meatballs almost but were deep-fried. They tasted like good spicy tamales. I would have eaten more but ran out of cheese sauce.

Scarlet,
~~I forgot to tell you there was a Cuban food booth and I thought of you but was hungry and didn't think to take a picture.

I can think of nothing more wrong than chicken fried bacon. That's like making popsicle-flavored ice cream.

Jocelyn,
~~I think I'm missing something in your analogy. I would jump on the chance to try grape popsicle flavored ice cream (and I'm not even an ice cream fan) but can think of nothing that would induce me to try chicken fried bacon. What am I missing?

It looks like you were having a great old time...Well, except maybe that scary ride, though you don't look too unhappy....I never have understood the attraction to these kinds of rides. I used to do them because I didn't want to be thought of as 'chicken'...But, wouldn't do any of them anymore. Too old, I guess...lol!

Naomi,
~~I was SO too old for that ride. Never again. Everything else I'll do again.

Chicken fried bacon? Do they offer a free ride to emergency with that when you have a heart attack?

I'm wondering what the heck chicken-fried bacon is...and don't you tell Clint, either. The camping crowd I hang out with has taken to deep frying...everything. Oreos are dipped in pancake batter and fried, onions, potatoes, zuchini. They experiemented with battered marshmallows, but they just popped right out of their "bread-jackets".

If these guys hear about battered bacon...good Lord.

Jazz,
~~No kidding. It would have been funny if the booth had been decorated with prop heart paddles.

Gnightgirl,
~~Sounds like your friends should enter the yearly contest for weird fried things. But I think they already have fried oreos.

What great photos! I felt like I was right there with ya! I'm with you on the chicken fried bacon. Is there nothing we won't fry?

O.M.G. I've got to blog and/or speak of this. Chicken fried bacon. Holy mother of god. And we thought poutine was the ultimate in heart-stopping food

I love Fair Day... so much fun, so much food! :)

Real,
~~Hi, thanks for stopping by. You couldn't pay me to try the bacon but I must admit I love fried okra, zucchini and fried dill pickle chips. Yum.

Xup,
~~When I was in Vancouver I ordered my poutine with the gravy on the side and I might as well have spat on the Canadian flag.

Jammie,
~~It's good times. I think you and Tony would love the Texas State Fair.

Love your Fair pictures! I can't believe you still ride the wild rides! I'm afraid I'd walk away with whiplash! haha I think I can handle the Skyway though. I'll look for those Tamale Balls too. I agree...Yay to the Texas State Fair!

Carole,
~~I only rode that one and don't plan to do it again! My arms are still sore. Have fun. I wish I could go with you guys.
