Burner Dyslexia and stuff

Does anyone else here ever do this? I do this ALL THE TIME. If you think a watched pot never boils, I can tell you it will boil a lot faster than an unwatched pot with the wrong burner on. All the knobs run in a line on the right of the stove. Why can't they design a stove with each knob next to the burner it controls? Why do I have so much trouble with this? Sheeesh! (And please don't mention the horrible pink tiles. They came with the house.)

Some projects I finished this past weekend:
These are my new house numbers I painted. I still haven't checked them at night. I should do that.

These little white (non-reflective) numbers on the mailbox were pretty much the only marker we had. We live at the top of a little hill right where the cul-de-sac starts, so everyone arrives from the bush side of the mailbox and the bush sticks out a good foot or more past the mailbox. I imagine those numbers are only useful for the postman. And last but not least:

I finally finished the photo board for the anniversary dinner this Saturday and those are all the loose pictures she gave me. I will take lots of pictures this Saturday after I decorate the tables and all that jazz. It's nice to finish projects.

Hmmmm maybe you do it because it gives you something to blog about?

Nice job on the photo board. I like the zig-zags across the page in pink, it's festive and fun. They'll love it!

As for burners, oh, let's not go there. I always melt down my tupperware thinking I have the right burner on WHEN I DON'T! It's terrible. Now I have a house rule (for myself more than anything): do not leave tupperware on ANY burner whether the stove is on or off. :)

Nice job on those house numbers. I like the number, too!

Geewits, the photo board looks great!

I am always putting the kettle on the burner to make a cup of tea and then I wonder why it hasn't boiled. I go back to see that I haven't turned the burner on! I do it so often, it is beginning to concern me.

Jazz,
~~Let's see, I've been cooking (and turning on the wrong burners) for 25 years, when was blogging invented?

Scarlet,
~~I learned a very long time ago not to have anything but pots on the oven.

Josie,
~~I think I'd rather forget to turn it on than have the wrong burner going the whole time.

The first time I remember doing the burner thing, and I was 20+ at the time, I lit my parents' stove top on fire. The second time, a month of so later, I just warped and discolored the metal cover, thank goodness it's metal. Since then, I do it at least once a week, but I usually catch it before the burner starts glowing because I can't smell the burning of the junk underneath. And, I haven't lit anything on fire like that since then, either.

I have an electric kettle, but sometimes I forget to push the button down to make it boil. Duh!

Love the photo board - you're going to have a great time! Can hardly wait to see the photos.

Ticknart,
~~It's nice to know someone else is burner dylsexic.

Leslie,
~~It sounds like you and Josie don't really want your tea after all.

Your house numbers and photo board both look great! That anniversary party is coming up pretty quick now! And the flowers next to your mailbox are pretty too.

So on my flat top stove, I have 5 burners, two on each side and one in the center back, and my knobs are on the center front and correspond to the position of the burners. But if they were all on one side, yeah...I'm sure I'd be doing that all the time!
I still turn on the wrong burner once in a while even with that arrangement! haha

Carole,
~~Thanks, yeah, the party is this Saturday. We are picking up relatives from the airport Wednesday night and taking them to the west side. I hope I didn't seem too brusque when you came by today, but I had just made tuna and hadn't cleaned up and was afraid the cats would jump up on the counter.

Geewits,
I didn't think you were brusque at all! I knew I was interrupting you fixing lunch and all, and you even took time to show me your bunny hutch! I just figured I was pretty scary what with no make-up, hair pulled back, grubbiest yard work clothes, and half covered in mud. Maybe if I run around the neighborhood like that more often, those kids that bug us will be too scared to come around. Muhahahaha

I hope you have a great time with your relatives. It sure is sweet of you to throw this party for your in-laws!

Yeah, I'm always turning the wrong burner on. It's so stupid that I do that. Mine's gas, though, so I know immediately that the "tick, tick, tick" is coming from the wrong place. Pfft.

Good job on the numbers and the photo board. It's always such a good feeling when a project is completed, isn't it? :)

Hi, I am here via Josie. I have just ordered my new cooker and am so excited. I know what you mean about the controls! I will be posting a picture of my new oven so do stop by next week, I am planning a special meal!

You're so talented! I'm envious.

Carole,
~~Yes we can both be the mean old crazy lady of the neighborhood!

Jeanette,
~~Gas is scary. I'd probably be more careful with gas.

Mrs.N,
~~Thanks for dropping by. Good luck with your new cooker!

Tai,
~~Ha! If you saw the cow pig thing I did for one of my MOW ladies you would so take that back!
