Random Thoughts on Autism

I was at the sink peeling boiled eggs and for no reason at all I started thinking of autism and how the studies always say the cases have increased and if that's really so, then I figured it had to be something people have been doing differently in the last 25 or 30 years.
~
I thought and thought and thought and I could come up with only three things: non-stick pans, microwave ovens and pot smoking. Oh, wait, I think it's called weed now. So maybe one of those things is causing autism or maybe it's one of the four possible combinations of those three things. Or maybe it's something else altogether. But at least it made sense at the time. I mean, it's got to be something.

Can't be the weed. That's been going on WAY longer than the past 25 years - more like starting in the 60s, 40-odd years ago.

Wow, that makes me feel old.

I think sweet 'n low is the culprit. I blame it on anything that we didn't have years ago.

Jazz,
~~Yeah you're right. That's been around in a regular way for 38 years probably in the U.S. People were smoking in the 60's, but not the majority. That was more mid to late 70's.

Lori,
~~That would be easy to check by sales and sections of the country because the southeast was probably the last part of the U.S. to use sweet n low. There are some crazy sugar freaks in the south. So if the southeast was the latest to show proliferation of autism, then sweet n low could possibly be to blame.

Again, our brain waves seem to intersect somewhere in the Twilight Zone. Last month, my wife and I threw out the non-stick pan and returned to the traditional Chinese Wok because we were concerned about the Teflon layer that eventually peels and disappears (perhaps into our food).
