Hip to be Square? No? Yes?

I've always been one of those annoyingly opinonated people that has an opinion about everything. Some things have been unchanged forever, like: I HATE country music*, 70's fashion and redneck men. OR that I LOVE the seashore, the color green, and clever humor. There have been a few things where I have done a complete 180, such as I used to detest Corbin Bernsen (and I have no idea why) and now I love him in "Psych." And when I was young I absolutely LOVED the song "You light up my Life" by Debby Boone (warning: this goes to a youtube video where the actual song will actually play). Now it seems hideous and treacly and sort of like fingernails on a chalkboard. So it always freaks me out when I can't make a decision about something. It's like I have a split personality and they (they?) just can't seem to reach a consensus. One example of this is the season finale of "The Sopranos." It aired June 10th and we (we?) can't seem to decide if we (we??!?) loved it or hated it. It has been "tabled" in my brain for further thought. The latest thing that has me (us?) totally on the fence is this:

square watermelons

*Okay, I will admit that really old country music such as that by Patsy Cline and Hank Williams is pretty good.

LOL, LOL...Love those square watermelons....Very Funny!
Yout not sure about that last SOPRANOS Episode? Hmmmmm. Think about this....David Chase really followed the line he has been writing all along. It was absolutely the only way to end that series, to my way of thinking....Anything else would not have been true to the entire six seasons...!

Naomi,
~~Well you're just preaching to the choir. "The Choir" being the part of me that absolutely got it and loved it. I'm not even sure what that other part of me is. The par that says, "Huh? What was that?"

Round! Watermelons should be round! Don't be square.

LGS,
~~It didn't surprise me they put the watermelons in little boxes. These are the same people that put women's feet in tiny shoes to keep them small.

Square? For real? No. No. No. Nature is round! As for that Debbie Boon song, I used to love it too (don't tell anyone). Do we share a brain?

Oh, and for the record, I'll be taking the plane with that song in my head.... Ugghhhh

You and me and Patsy and Hank. Couldn't agree more about your C&W choices as well as your general reviling of the genre. AFter my 2nd divorce Patsy's 'Sweet Dreams of YOu' used to make me mist up so much I couldn't listen to it for a while.
But, I have a confession to make, I always liked 'Stand by your Man' by Tammy.

Geewits, believe it or not, I got so bored with the Sopranos, I didn't even watch the last season. I heard so much about the finale, and I never did find out what happened.

What happened?

I hate country and western music, including Hank Williams, (fingernails on a blackboard to me) but I love Patsy Cline. I hated "You Light Up My Life". To me it always sounded like treacle. Any song sung by anyone with the last name Boone - *shudder*

Jazz,
~~Yay! I guess you are in the air on the way to Texas right now!

Ian,
~~I immediately pictured you singing "Stand by Your Man" and laughed out loud!

Josie,
~~You were a little older and wiser than me when that song came out. The Sopranos? That's the point. No one knows what happened. It was left... Well it was just left.

I know what happened at the end of The Sopranos: They made a movie five years later that didn't explain what happened immediately after The Black and upsetting Soprano fans even more because they just payed $10 per ticket plus money for popcorn and a soda to not learn anything new about the characters.

It's an old story.

Naaah. I'm pretty sure they won't make a movie. Maybe a prequel of teen Tony making his first hit in 1980.

You liked THAT song?? Well, guess what?? I got you beat! I used to love that MacArthur Park song..."Someone left the cake out in the rain..." by Donna Summer when I was younger and now, OH GOD, NO!!!

geewits said...

Scarlet,
~~You will not believe this but I LOVE "MacArthur Park!" Not the Donna Summer version but the song. Someone special performed it onstage in high school and that's the version that plays in my head. It was excellent. If the song is not done well it is hideous. I like to sing it in the shower. Or to annoy people, because I can't sing.

In the turmoil at work, some inmate stole a big watermelon out of the prison garden. Now just how to you smuggle something that big back to your cell. I suspect, with the recent layoffs and no-pay threats, the corrections officers just don't care. Hey, at least they're working. As for Huey Lewis, ugggghhhh.

JR,
~~It took me the LONGEST time to figure out why you were talking about Huey Lewis. I re-read everyone's comments, then re-read my post and was scratching my head thinking, "Why on earth did he mention Huey Lewis?" I finally figured it out, DOH! I imagine one would have to be quite crafty to steal a watermelon, but your theory is probably the correct one.
