The Airport Body Scanner

I think a lot of people think I am a die hard left leaning liberal. And I probably am in a lot of ways. So why is it I am always disagreeing with the A.C.L.U.? The local news carried a story tonight about the new airport body scanners and the controversy around them. A representative of the A.C.L.U. spoke out against them. "Invasion of privacy," she said.
~
The scan is seen by someone in another room and the images are not stored. I personally would rather see my chubby frumpy body displayed on a giant screen for all the world to see than to be blown up in an airplane. Cause I'm weird like that.

I never thought you were a leftie liberal at all. Hmmm. The problem with all this invasion of privacy is that it does, indeed give people a sense of "everything's going to be all right now". But all this technology and over-zealous screening isn't going to stop a determined bomber. There was plenty of technology and screening in place when the underwear bomber got through, too. And if planes get too difficult they'll just move to blowing up buildings or subways or trains or hospitals. What we need is better intelligence services to stop these things at source, not way, way down the chain. Why haven't they found Bin Laden yet, for instance?

Is that a gun on your butt or are you just happy to see me?

I agree with you.

I tend to agree with you, about the blowing up thing that is, but it's still a pain in the now all-too-visible ass. Sexy photo BTW. Wonder if there will be a porno site just featuring body scan pics and will they lead to a new fetish for assorted pervs?

Xup,
~~Where's Jason Bourne when you need him. Or James Bond?

GnightGirl,
~~Hee hee.

Ian,
~~It's supposed to be set up so that the photos can not be saved.

Carole,
~~You're just making it worse! (See above comment)

Yeah, but everybody has a camera phone these days. And I remember how they had to set up "stings" in airports to catch the thievery that was going on after "airport security" started searching checked bags. Suffice it to say, if you have valuables nowadays, you better bring a carry on. I'm not saying I don't trust airport employees, I'm just saying you better watch your ass-ets.

Of course I certainly agree with you about the being blown up business! I forgot to add that to my comment above.

I'll repeat the comment I left at Ian's blog. I'd much rather be scanned than patted down - as happened to me in LA. I don't give a shit if it's a woman and it's done professionally and I'm dressed.

Nobody should be touching. My. Cootchie.

Except me, my man and my gyno. Period. I'll take the scan any day.

Even knowing it won't stop a determined terrorist. If "they" say it must be done (and I think they're going overboard myself), just gimme a scan.

And I won't stop flying - cause what the hell, you take your life into your hands just stepping out the door in the morning.

I think I agree with you...lol!
But, I want to know what those dark things are on the bodies in those scans..? They look kind of scary....
