The August Baked Blahs

Well my official annual summer torpor (or ennui) has officially started. If you have been reading me for a long time, you know this happens every year. It's rough watching the nightly news and see the weather man excitedly predicting that the temperature will come down to 100° maybe this weekend. Yes you read that right: come down to 100°. And maybe.
Yippee. Nearly all of my flowers now look like crumbly bits of a brown paper bag. And I watered them every single day. But as we like to say around here, "Well it's just too hot."
Every day I wake up and think of all the things I want to do and then I just don't quite get to them. Oh, I'm doing all the neccessary things: cook dinner every night, clean the kitchen, wash the sheets every Wednesday and deliver my MOW food every Friday, but other than that? Not so much.
My house was so messy last Thursday when the termite guy came for his annual inspection that I thought it would be funny to mess with his head and tell him I was the live-in housekeeper. But I didn't. (Ennui.)
The one project I do want to get to soon is my daughter's wedding veil. Carole's daughter gave us her wedding veil and I have great plans for it. My mother had a gorgeous necklace and earrings set of Austrian crystals from the 1960's. My daughter is going to wear the necklace and I deconstructed the earrings:
That left me with 36 gorgeous Austrian crystal beads in two different sizes. And by the way, Austrian crystals are really hard to photograph. I took maybe 10 pictures trying different things and this was the best I could do. And that picture doesn't look at all like how the crystals look to my live eyeballs.
So I have a plan for doing beadwork onto some as yet unbought and imaginary thing that I will magically find at the fabric store. This will be on top of my daughter's head attached to the veil. That's my plan, anyway. But the thing is, it's too hot to go to the fabric store. Or do pretty much anything really. I'll get around to it later.

I thought the same thing as your sweetie. I laughed out loud at the live eyeballs.

So, you're going to make like a tiara with these beads or something? After following the whole process of planning and preparing for this wedding, it's going to be fun to see the photos of the actual day.

I might have tried photographing the crystals on black velvet.
but it is too hot to think about heavy material like velvet.

I do see lots of color flashing out from those crystals. I'm excited to see what you come up with!

Yes it is too hot to do much of anything. I was so looking forward to the warmth of summer last winter with the cold and snow we got. Now I'm looking forward to Autumn. The grass is always greener on the other side of the street, when it's not burnt up from the heat that is. :D

My Sweetie,
~~And I still have TWO!

~~I'm always happy when you laugh.

~~Not a tiara. That's like metal and rhinestones. This will be the Austrian crystal beads on some sort of cloth band across the top of the veil - where it meets the head. Like a headband sort of.

~~That might have worked and I keep a piece in there. I just didn't think of it.

~~I'm always jealous that you are so much more cold natured than I am. I have NEVER looked forward to a Texas summer. Ever.

I hope you get a break in the HOT HOT Weather, very soon...! It sure can be debilitating....!
And good luck with your Crystal Project.

When I read you "deconstructed" the earrings, I thought, why would she do that?? But I should know better than to question you, Ms. Creativity Pants! :)

I can't wait to see what you come up with...and I hope it cools off soon!

PS - Funny how we all stopped and smiled (or laughed) at "live eyeballs," and here I thought it was just me.

~~Thanks! They are calling for 99° on Monday. I think today was day 12 of triple digits.

~~They were clip-ons and sort of odd. Adding them to the veil seemed like the best way to make them accompany the necklace.

It is funny that everyone thought that was funny, because that's actually the way I talk. I'm sort descriptive that way.

(Oh and your blog disappeared again.)

I had disturbing comments again and closed it temporarily. I decided to use comment moderation for a while until I lose the psycho, so it's open once again.

I love the things you're pulling together for the wedding. This is me, waiting for those photos!

It's almost kind of fun getting a bit behind on your blog, because I can sit down laugh, then go to the next post, and laugh again. Loved your temptation to mess with the termite guy; I'm always imagining messing with people, but never go through with it. Most commonly, I want to jump out behind racks of whatever I"m browsing, and scare the bejeezus out of screamy little kids in the store.

~~I hope it's not the same A-Ho that's been hitting a lot of people.

~~I'm going to (photo) do the veil step by step.

~~I usually DO go through with it but then immediately burst out laughing.
