Random Stuff

I was so sad when little David Archuleta bombed tonight on "American Idol." (He's the one on the left for those of you who are too cool to watch this show.) I actually started to tear up, but I was also chewing a bite of quesadilla and I found out a long time ago that crying and eating do not mix well.

Friday, I got the pots and pans I had ordered from Macy's. I had always wanted stainless steel cookware but never quite got around to it. Then I get this e-mail from Macy's that's all "KITCHENWARE CLEARANCE WITH FREE SHIPPING TODAY ONLY." So, you know, I had to go at least look. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse. The brand is Cuisinart and I am IN LOVE. I've used 4 of them so far. That one right behind the tomatoes up there? I've never had anything like that, but I've always wanted something like that so that one is my very favorite. I stored the dutch oven away because I'm not a big dutch oven user, but I will be using the other ones all the time. Every time I look at them or touch them, in my head I sing a rousing chorus of "How [did] I live without you?" Yeah, I'm weird.

Speaking of new, I mentioned I finally got a new phone. That's the old one on the left and the new one on the right. I haven't really used it yet. I usually only use my phone on Wednesdays when I do Meals on Wheels, so maybe I will get to use it tomorrow. And speaking of tomorrow, tomorrow is Catfish Wednesday! Yay! I love Catfish Wednesday. I really am very easily amused.

They have some really slick looking phones out today, don't they? It's so weird to look at older cell phones and how slick they used to look then and now they look all clunky. I kind of wish I were more brave and were comfortable about striking out into new, unknown territory (other than a Razr), but alas, I am not.

I love your new pans. Your sweetie better behave, eh? Those pans look like they have good handles for conking someone. *tee hee*

Hey I wasn't brave or striking out. I just went for the free one. That's terrible about the pans! He's been home sick for two days and the only way I'd ever clunk him is if I knew it would make his cold go away. You don't think it would, do you?

BEAUTIFUL pots and pans! Stainless Steel is The Best as far as Health is concerned....! They really are very beautiful in that picture...! CONGRATULATIONS!
And congrats on your New Phone, too! Is "Catfish Wednesday what they serve on Wednesdays from MOW? I don't believe I have ever eaten Catfish.,...!

Naomi,
~~Every Wednesday after I deliver MOW, I go out to lunch and every other Wednesday I have catfish, so I call that one Catfish Wednesday. I love good catfish, but catfish is not something you can recommend to someone else. I would only advise you to try it if you could go with me to the place I have it. Bad catfish is HORRIBLE.

The picture is from the Macy's website, but they really are lovely pots and pans.

Wow! Lots of fun news! Well, sorry about the guy who got voted off Idol, but the phone and pots and pans are fun!

I have lived alone for about 18 months now (well, longer than that in a way but I won't go into that...!!). One of my first major obstacles was learning how to cook and bake enough to survive. The idea of hot dogs, hamburgers and fast food had limitations!

I went to Kohl's, Wal-Mart, Target and some other stores and bought some pots and pans (and glasses and flatware and....). One thing I did sort of inherit (as my wife did not like it) was a slow cooker. I started making roasts, turkey and such things in the crock pot.

That led to exploring the mysteries of what an oven could - and could not - do! Now I am able to at least sort of read a cookbook and make a meal or two beyond the standard "meal in a box" type stuff.

I have a long, long, long (did I say long?) ways to go, but am learning a lot about cooking. SO I found those stainless steel pots and pans extremely attractive! I have seen this brand in the "finer" stores and it is a super brand. You will enjoy them a lot and will always be grateful you bought quality!

Take care.

I love kitchen stuff. And cookbooks and cooking shows - and yet I don't like to cook. At. All.

Those pots and pans have me drooling.

Russell,
~~If you have cable, watch the food network, it will give you great ideas. It has taken me years to really learn the ropes, but once you know all the basics and the very science of cooking, you can pretty much make anything.

Jazz,
~~I love to cook but I don't bake at all. The last cake I made, from a box at that, was probably 14 years ago.

Geewits, okay, you are not going to believe this. Last weekend I was in a kitchen store here on Fourth Avenue. I was looking at that very identical set of pots and pans. As I looked at them, I realized that my set of pots and pans has seen better days, and I thought to myself, "I should buy that set before Geewits comes to visit, so she doesn't think I am a bad cook and have crappy pots and pans." It was that identical set by Cuisinart. So, this is a sign. I'm going back to the store to buy it!

Josie,
~~That's crazy! After all this time we've had so many synchronicities, I'm surprised it still seems crazy, though. I hope you get the same great deal I got. And you will LOVE them!

Are the pots and pans that shiny? The reflection in the big one is outstanding. Did you arrange them to look like the picture after you opened them? I think I'd have had to do that.

I've always wanted new cookware, but it's about five place down on the things I want list. Here's hoping I get to that part of the list one cay.

Gee, I was also sad by David's performance. But he is so talented, clearly the best vocals in the group; hopefully one bad night won't get him voted off. And who knows, next week he's labile to blow our socks off with something fantastic! I still think he has a chance of winning yet.
In the 10 years we've lived here, we've never had a box cake turn out right, even using the extra humidity directions, so we always make them from scratch now. But I think they're better that way anyhow.
Love the pots and pans! Love Macys too for that matter, especially during heir sales. hee hee

Good cookware is almost as good as sex. I emphasize 'almost'.

Ticknart,
~~You give me way too much credit! That's the Macy's ad picture. I guess I shouls start listing picture credits. I can tell you this: If you have all the right stuff, cooking is far more enjoyable.

Carole,
~~On some radio station today they were all: He didn't know the lyrics, he should go! It would really break my heart. I hope they voted out the girl that sang "Eight Days a Week" countrified. That was truly hideous.

Ian,
~~Only you could work the word "sex" into an eight word sentence about cookware!

Your last lines about Catfish Wednesday cracked me up for some reason.

And for the record, I was sad over David Archuleta's performance also. He's a young cutie, so humble and mature for his age, and I like his voice. My favorites are Michael Johns and David Cook, the rockers, of course. :)

What are you going to whip up with your new cookware?

Humm getting excited about pots and pans... geewits you have got to get out more... To the contrary of my sister I really don't much care about cooking things or cooking for that matter. Food is food, after all it's just fuel. ;o)
Now new electronic gadgets, now we're cooking... I've never seen a gadget I didn't want to try. Right now I have a Treo 680 smart phone with my whole life on it. My electronic memory, since my own was never very good and hasn't gotten better with age. ;o)

Scarlet,
~~David Cook's "comb forward" makes me gag and reminds me of Donald Trump. I think I would respect his singing more if he didn't have that "comb forward." That other guy is an Australian and it seems odd that an Australian could be the next "American" Idol. Same with that Irish girl.

Big Brother,
~~My first two husbands were both EE's and they were gadget freaks. I'm into some gadgets and not so much into others. I have no interest in watching a movie on a 2 inch screen, but I sure love my DVR.
